Workers' mobility: A Million jobs beyond border?
In today’s challenging circumstances, a flexible and mobile labour market is a key instrument for tackling the financial crisis. Moreover, in some European countries, population is aging rapidly, so young foreign workers are all the more needed. However, if the principle of free movement of people dates back to the creation of the European Community, concrete practical difficulties and a fair amount of uncertainties still hinder the exercise of this freedom. VIDEO DESCRIPTION: - Quotes Wallis Goelen Vendebrock, European Commission, DG Employment
- Quotes Tony Venables, Managing Director of European Citizen Action Service (ECAS): "I think what Europe has to do is to keep its market open, resist pressure for more protectionism and some xenophobic reactions (...)"
- Quotes Belgian Employer/ Polish worker: "When you are flexible, you can find a job, you can work not only in your own profession, you can find a new profession."
